As of the United States 2000 Census, the township had a total population of 69,965, making it the fourteenth-largest municipality in New Jersey and the sixth-largest in the Delaware Valley, South Jersey's densely-populated core outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In their 2006 survey, Cherry Hill was named the 47th Best Place to Live by CNN Money and was ranked 8th safest place to live in this same survey.
